Dewsbury born Alistair Brownlee is the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles in the triathlon event, winning gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

During its heyday the Batley Variety Club staged concerts by WORLD FAMOUS stars including Louis Armstrong, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Eartha Kitt, Morecambe and Wise, Gene Pitney, Neil Sedaka, Ken Dodd and many more! 🌎
Batley Variety Club later became The Frontier before finally closing down in 2016 (currently a gym).

Portugal has been removed from the UK government’s “green list” of destinations from which people can return to England without having to quarantine, and no extra countries have been added, it is understood.
This is a real blow to tourism and tourists.

WH Smith was Dewsbury’s first borough librarian in 1889. Books were his life and, within a few years of being the town’s librarian, the library was turning over three quarters of a million books a year.
He loved the Brontes even more than we do and collected their works.
